Guide On How To Pressure Wash A House
Want to learn how to pressure wash a house? We will give you a step by step guide to do so.
Step 1 – Finding the right pressure washer to pressure wash a house:
Choosing a pressure washer can be challenging but we are here to help. You can go to any local hardware store and purchase a pressure washer but the question is which one to buy? Typically when you go to look for a pressure washer there are a number of pressure washers with different (PSI) Pounds per Square Inch levels but lets not focus on that. You really want to focus on your (GPM) Gallons Per Minute.
The difference between the two in short is this:
- PSI – In plain English is how much mass or water that is pushed out of the machine. In other words the higher the number the more likely you are to destroy your property and other things that go along with it.
- GPM – In plain English is how much water you put out per minute. Now what this means is the higher the number the faster you get the job done.
You want to work with a GPM of 3 or higher. With that said when you buy a pressure washing machine for this project you will want to go the soft washing route, other wise your wasting time and money. I say time because this will eliminate you having to use ladders to reach those hard to reach places and money because you will find your self going back to replace parts or looking for another machine because your just not satisfied.
Here I have added a link that you can look at that will give you a good start as to what machine to buy, you don’t have to purchase this one but at least where getting in the right direction: Good starter pressure washer to buy – CLICK HERE.
Step 2 – Using The Right Tip To Soft Wash A House:
OK, So we have a general idea as to what type of pressure washer to buy, now how do we soft wash our home and what does that mean? Well I’m glad you asked.
Soft washing is when you apply chemical to your home VS. utilizing pressure and causing future damages to your home that may have been unexpected. Example would be spraying water behind your vinyl siding which can lead to mold, mildew and rot in some cases.
Now in order to soft wash your home you need a special tip that will allow you to spray chemical on your home with that awesome machine you just bought! I have prepared a link for you to view of a specific tip we really like to use here and its called the X-JET: Right Tip To Soft Wash A House – CLICK HERE.
Step 3 – Applying the right chemical to a house when pressure washing to clean:
Now this one can seem a bit stressful and some would argue with these methods of cleaning so instead of me guiding you towards one option, I will give you a few so that you can decide which will be best for you.
- Option 1 Bleach: Yes I said bleach some will disagree but if your have a very dirty, mold covered, mildew infested home that looks like the image below then this will be the easiest way to clean your home. All you need is 1 gallon of your regular house hold bleach with a little liquid house soap just to create a studding agent and mix that with 4 gallons of water and your ready to clean. If you choose to use a more concentrated mixture I advise you read more online before trying this at home. Also let me just add that this is just helpful information for you to use at your own discretion, if you feel you are not sure you mixed it right then to be safe test your mixture on a small area before spraying your entire house.
- Option 2 Power Cleaner: If you are concerned about using bleach and want a more economical way of cleaning that is safe for the environment and your home then use Moldex Power Multi-Purpose Outdoor Cleaner. I will provide a link for you below to find this product. Moldex Power Multi-Purpose Outdoor Cleaner is a commercial strength multi-surface cleaner designed to clean dirt, grime and remove mold, mildew, algae stains from almost any surface. It was specifically formulated for vinyl and aluminum siding as well as wood, brick and concrete surfaces. It is useful on an array of surfaces and contains no bleach, ammonia or poisonous acids so it can be used safely around plants and shrubs. Once again this just some helpful information for you to use at your own discretion, if you still fell your not ready then I would suggest hiring a pressure washing company to come clean your home. Now once you have chosen your method of cleaning then you will need a five gallon bucket that you can pick up from your local hardware store and premix your solution. Once your solution is ready to go you can set your X-Jet filter in the bucket and start your engine. Make sure you have constant water flow to your pressure washer because this can lead to pump failure if you fail to do so.
Step 4 – Apply Your Chemical & Rinse:
Your now all set all you need to do is apply your chemical. You should start with one side of the house and spray top to bottom until you have reached half way around your home. Now you will stop spraying your chemical, remove your X-Jet filter from your 5 gallon bucket and go back to your start point and rinse with water. It is important to stop after you have applied chemical to half your home because you do not want the chemical to dry up in the sun. This will lead to streaking and it will also become harder to remove the chemical during the rinsing process.
Once you have completely rinsed the first half of your home then you will repeat the process above for the other half and when you have finally reached the end you can give yourself a pat on the back for a successful mission complete with pressure washing your home.
